David Bush-Brown and John Keller founded Long Wharf Investors in 1995, out of a mutual desire to provide a boutique investing experience to private wealth clients and non-profit institutions.
John and David – friends and seasoned Boston financiers – knew they shared a common passion: investing directly for clients, free from the politics of a large organization. They realized that synergy comes from collaborating with colleagues towards a common goal, and decided to form Long Wharf Investors. The firm’s name was chosen because of the historic wharf’s significance in the early development of Boston as a symbol of financial strength and Yankee ingenuity.
In 2005, John and David brought on Rod Macdonald, a lawyer and investor who is also an expert in financial planning and employee compensation matters. The trio believes that each leader’s individual expertise – in economic, financial, and business analysis, quantitative modeling and trading technology, and extensive legal knowledge – balances the team, further strengthening the firm’s offering and supporting the needs of its clients.
